District Governor - Gene HolimanRotary District 5870 Governor-Nominee GENE HOLIMAN Gene Holiman, originally a native of the Mississippi Delta, has lived and worked in Austin since 1983. After graduating from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Marketing, he enjoyed a 40-year career in marketing and advertising in Memphis and Austin, on both the advertising agency side and as a self-employed marketing consultant and in retail sales. Since formally retiring in 2012, he is pursuing an encore career writing marketing texts and children's books. Gene's Rotary journey began in 1996 after he sought out a service club in his area and then joined the Northwest Austin Rotary Club, where he has been active ever since. He follows both his father's and his older brother's footsteps in Rotary activities, and has maintained a perfect attendance record since joining the organization. He is currently also an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Austin Centennial, where he also works on various projects. He has visited 50+ Rotary Clubs in eight states, with a goal to hit all 50 states. In his home club Gene has served as President, President-Elect, Club Service Chair, Rotaract Chair, and on numerous committees and project teams including RYLA, and as a par producer in the club's successful annual fruit sales fund raiser since its inception. Gene previously served the District as Secretary, Assistant Governor, Roll of Fame Chairman, Public Image Chair (successfully securing three RI grants, one the only RI grant awarded in two entire zones), District Conference Registrar, and trainer at six District Assemblies. He is a Paul Harris Fellow +3 and is a contributing member of the Polio Plus Society in his home club. Gene was inducted into the District 5870 Roll of Fame in 2011. Gene and his wife Kathleen have been married for nearly 44 years. They have two children, daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren, fortunately all living in the Greater Austin Area. In his tight spare time, Gene enjoys reading, trains of all sorts, cooking, and performing church/charity work. |

Welcome to the Rotary Club of West Austin
Rotary International began in 1905 in Chicago with four friends who rotated a weekly meeting in their offices thus the name. Today there are 29,000 clubs with 1.2 million men and women providing community service in virtually every nation in the world. One of the joys of being in Rotary is that Rotary Clubs are like a home away from home when traveling and because each club is autonomous, no two clubs conduct their meetings the same way. I look forward to greeting you when you are in Austin and visit one of our next Thursday noontime meetings. |
