IN-PERSON & ZOOM MEETING : Living and Working in Antarctica
![]() Laura Peckham will talk to us about her adventures living in working in Antarctica.
About Laura Peckham: Laura Peckham grew up in Austin, TX, and was a 2011 McCallum grad, before heading to Furman University for a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In 2022, Laura quit her job to hike the Appalachian Trail. Afterward, she chose to enter the world of seasonal work, rather than returning to a standard office job. It has been a learning curve of highs and lows, but has taken her to some interesting places, including Antarctica. Laura has spent three seasons - two summers and one winter - working with the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) at both McMurdo Station, and Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. She worked in the galley at both stations, and in supply logistics at McMurdo. Her presentation will focus on her personal experience as support staff at a USAP research station. |
